Description:
„Sport for All and the Environment” is an EU project which aims at the promotion of environmentally friendly sport events with a range of activities. It involved organizations from Poland, Latvia, Czech Republic, United Kingdom and Slovakia.

The project promoted the exchange of experiences and the development of the second edition of guidelines for ecologically sustainable sports events. It also included organization of 4 flagship events and support with promotional materials in a form of free of charge canned drinks for about 120 different sport events, organized in a sustainable way for environment, including collection and recycling of empty cans.

The project collected good practices for the implementation of environmentally sustainable sport events providing suggestions for the future organizers.

Impact and Results:

The project acted directly on many sport events (120) throughout all the countries of the partners of the project involving a large amount of people.

Moreover, another part of the SforAE Project was to collect best practices in sport events to be published in a brochure. The best practices promoting active lifestyles and compliant with green events also included recommendations for sport events’ organizers. There were several examples of sport events to show possible actions, not only in the organization of recycling, but also on reducing the environmental impact of organized sport events.

Conclusions and Suggestions for Youth Workers:

The activity is very useful and provides good ideas on the organization of sport events but also other kind of events for youth workers. It gives a lot of good ideas for a better environmental sustainability in organized events and how international cooperation can contribute to the collection and development of good practices.
